Get Out! Weekend recommendations: Korean food, cool-kid parties, and, you know, tango

Here’s what to do and where to be in Buenos Aires this weekend, from documentaries to spicy dishes

I hope you’ve built your arc and fortified it, because these events are worth paddling out for. From killer Korean food to a night out as legendary as Polenta (no, not the cornmeal), Buenos Aires will keep you busy this weekend.

Korean Cuisine at Hansang Food Week 2025

Event runs through August 24
Various restaurants across Buenos Aires
Prices start at AR$20,000.

More than 20 restaurants across Argentina will celebrate Korean culture during Hansang Food Week 2025, organized by the Association of Korean Gastronomes in Argentina. This special edition marks 60 years of Korean immigration to the country, honoring tradition, creativity and flavor.

Restaurants across the country will feature a special dish celebrating hansik (Korean cuisine), including the traditional baek ban format — a main dish served with rice, soup and a variety of seasonal side dishes. Participating spots include Gamm, Kikiriki, Barthale, Una Canción Coreana, Yugane, Ku:l, The Kunjip and more.

The festival also highlights a new generation of Korean-Argentine chefs blending family tradition with local innovation. Looking for the best Korean food in Buenos Aires? Check out our Herald guide to Korea Town.

Polenta

Saturday 23 — midnight
C Art Media (Corrientes 6271, Chacarita)
Tickets starts at AR$17,000 and can be purchased online

Polenta is more experience than party. It combines the dazzling visuals of an electronic party with the hottest urban and pop beats. Each event is different with lights, lasers, dancers, surprise giveaways and immersive visuals.

The event started in Buenos Aires in 2019, but has since expanded to cities like New York, Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin and Miami. It’s a space for everyone who loves to dance, enjoy themselves and just have fun.

Buenos Aires Tango Festival and Competition

Wednesday through September 2
Various locations across the city

It’s that time of year again — when tango takes over the city in the annual international Tango Festival and Competition. A program that includes concerts, shows, milongas, special activities and a dance competition that brings together couples from more than 50 countries.

Events take place all around Buenos Aires, from milongas to the outdoors to historic theaters. Check out the full program online if you’re wanting to eat, breath, and live tango for the next two weks.

Unsure of where to start? We recommend checking out the qualifying rounds for classic tango (tango de pista) and stage tango (tango de escenario), the more acrobatic variant in which participants are allowed to jump and break their embrace. These take place starting at noon on August 23 and run through August 26 at the Usina del Arte (Agustín R. Caffarena 1, La Boca.)

Doc Bs As – International Documentary Film Festival

August 19 to 24
Sala Leopoldo Lugones  — Av. Corrientes 1530, 10th floor
Sala DAC — Vera 559

Daniela Seggiaro’s Husek

The International Documentary Film Festival Doc BsAs has spent a quarter of a century bringing the finest documentary films from all over the world to Buenos Aires. The program for its 25th anniversary features a special focus on the latest from Chilean filmmaker Ignacio Agüero, including his fascinating 2012 film El otro día. There is also a retrospective of Salta-born director Daniela Seggiaro, whose films offer a view on the tense cultural and social intersections that still exist in her province, over 500 years after Europeans made their way to the Americas.

Tickets for Sala Lugones screenings can be purchased online. All the events in Sala DAC are free admission, subject to the venue’s capacity.
