What’s the Copa América?

The Copa América is an international tournament, where South American teams and a few guests play to decide who’s the best in the continent. First played in 1916, it’s the oldest continental trophy in the world that’s still played, beating its European counterpart the UEFA European Championship by 42 years. In 2021, Argentina clinched its 15th Copa América by beating Brazil 1-0 in the final, tying Uruguay for the record number of continental titles.

When and where is the Copa América played?

The 2024 Copa América will be played in the United States, with 13 cities hosting games. It will be played from June 20 to July 14, with Argentina playing the opening game against Canada.

Who plays in the Copa América?

The 2024 Copa América will be contested by the 10 national teams in Conmebol, the South American Football Confederation: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

You’ll notice Canada isn’t on the list: that’s because six teams from the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Football Association qualified for the 2024 tournament. Canada is starting strong as a debutant against the defending champion with 15 Copa América titles under its belt.
