Argentine judiciary cautions Roger Waters against making anti-Semitic remarks

The Delegation of Israeli-Argentine Associations had called for the shows to be canceled for remarks deemed anti-Semitic

Musician Roger Waters has been ordered by the Argentine judiciary to refrain from making anti-Semitic remarks or discriminatory acts in his two concerts scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Buenos Aires. The ruling comes in response to an injunction filed by the Delegation of Israeli-Argentine Associations (DAIA, by its Spanish initials) which had called for the shows to be suspended.

Although the courts did not grant the cancellation request, the DAIA celebrated that Andrea Scanga, the anti-discrimination prosecutor of the City of Buenos Aires, will attend both shows “to monitor and eventually act if Waters violates the law,” a press release stated.

The source of the DAIA’s complaint was the former Pink Floyd leader’s “anti-Semitic statements and messages” during the show he performed in Montevideo, Uruguay, last week.

“The DAIA condemns […] the anti-Semitic messages that the former leader of the band Pink Floyd has been repeating in his public presentations,” the communiqué said. “In addition to questioning the terrorist massacre committed by Hamas on October 7, claiming that it was an invention of Israel, during the show in Uruguay he insulted the president of the Jewish Community of Uruguay and accused Israel of murdering the Palestinian people.”

Waters is known for his anti-war stances but has been questioned over his remarks about the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 — he described it as a “false flag operation” in an interview with Glenn Greenwald earlier this month.

During his show in Montevideo, Waters sent a “special greeting” to Roby Schindler, “who is the leader of some Israeli organization here and banned me from the beautiful hotels of his city. So Roby, fuck you!” The DAIA also condemned Waters for saying the Israeli government was “murdering the Palestinian people in Gaza” during the show.

According to the Associated Press, the Gaza health authorities can no longer track casualties and deaths due to the collapsed health system. According to their November 10 toll, 11,078 people had been killed in Israeli attacks.

Nine Argentines have been killed since October 7 and according to the Foreign Ministry, 21 have been kidnapped by Hamas — the youngest is a 10-month-old baby.
