Transport Secretary Franco Mogetta has resigned in order to “focus on La Libertad Avanza’s political project,” Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced on Thursday afternoon.
“Mogetta was a key figure in directing and reordering the transport area, successfully confronting the critical situation inherited from the previous government. His work was a deciding factor in reorganizing the sector’s functioning, prioritizing efficiency,” Caputo wrote on X, expressing gratitude on behalf of himself and President Javier Milei.
For his part, Mogetta had not commented on his resignation at the time of writing.
A lawyer from Córdoba who started his political career with former presidential candidate Juan Schiaretti, Mogetta had been in the role since Milei took office in 2023. The Transport Secretariat was initially part of the Infrastructure Ministry. It was then merged into the Economy Ministry when Infrastructure Minister Guillermo Ferraro was ejected from Milei’s administration for allegedly leaking the president’s comments to the press, just weeks after Milei took office.
The new secretary, Luis Pierrini, will oversee what Caputo described as “the second stage of the Transport Secretariat.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Pierrini has spent the past 20 years working as president and general manager of the insurance firm Triunfo Seguros, and has also worked with the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation.
He studied business administration at the Argentine Business University (UADE, by its Spanish initials).
The change in command will be made official in the coming days, Caputo concluded.
