Marjorie Taylor Greene joins chorus of far-right figures to congratulate Milei

Argentina’s new president is rapidly becoming the darling of arch-conservatives in the United States and across the globe

Donald Trump, former Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters, and now Marjorie Taylor Greene. On Sunday, the U.S. Congresswoman became the latest member of the American far right to celebrate Javier Milei’s victory in Argentina’s 2023 presidential election.

“Congratulations to President Javier Milei on your historic inauguration in Argentina!” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Your commitment to liberty and bold ideas resonate with the people. Wishing you success in your presidency as you lead your nation towards freedom! May freedom continue to prevail around the world #MakeArgentinaGreatAgain”

Taylor Greene, who joined the U.S. House of Representatives in 2021 — the same year that Milei was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in Argentina — has made a number of controversial remarks both in and out of office.

Prior to entering Congress, she suggested that the terrorist attacks on September 11 were an inside job and that a QAnon conspiracy theory claiming that Donald Trump was battling a cabal of pedophiles, many of them belonging to the Democratic Party, was “worth listening to.” She has also speculated that a California wildfire was, in fact, caused by the Pacific, Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in conjunction with the Rothschilds, a prominent Jewish banking family.

In 2021, she lost her House Committee assignments for pushing other baseless conspiracy theories.

During her time in Congress, Taylor Greene has attempted to impeach both Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and President Joe Biden. An Axios report earlier this month indicated that she is on Trump’s shortlist for vice president in 2024, along with Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.

Among Milei’s staunchest supporters in the United States is Roger Stone. The Republican strategist, who got his start campaigning for Richard Nixon, has shared La Libertad Avanza (LLA) content on his social media channels and has even taken to Substack to implore his fellow conservatives to follow Milei’s example.

In October, the radical libertarian entered the American political consciousness when he sat down with former Fox News and current Tucker on X host Tucker Carlson. During the interview, which aired on the social media platform, the then-candidate for president accused the pope of being complicit in mass murder and socialists of being “heretics” who are “stained with blood.”

Growing support from the international right

Since defeating Union por la Patria’s Sergio Massa in November’s runoff election, Milei has received congratulations from far-right figures across the globe, including Vox’s Santiago Abascal in Spain and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who attended Sunday’s inauguration. Also on hand were former Chilean presidential candidate José Antonio Kast and Hungarian President Viktor Orbán, among others.

On November 21, Trump posted a video on his social media site, Truth Social, telling Milei that he was “very proud” of him.

“You will turn your country around and truly make Argentina great again,” he said.

Milei’s press team subsequently released a statement announcing that Trump was planning on visiting Argentina but that a date had not yet been set.
