Judges have confirmed charges of incitement to collective violence against four members of far-right group Revolución Federal (Federal Revolution) in a case investigating the assassination attempt against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on September 1, 2022. 

However, the ruling rejects CFK’s lawyers’ request to charge group members Jonathan Morel, Gastón Guerra, Leonardo Sosa and Sabrina Basile with criminal association on the grounds that the hate speech and events organized by the group were not directly related to the attempt to kill Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. 

Judges Leopoldo Bruglia, Mariano Llorens, Pablo Bertuzzi and María Victoria Talarico wrote in their ruling: “Their virtual meetings [Twitter Spaces], overflowing with resentment towards the government, and the marches, where they used torches and a guillotine, lack an entity to affirm that the aim of the group was to use strength to create fear and, thus, impose their ideas or attack others’ ideas.” 

On 1 September, Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel, 35, attempted to shoot Fernández de Kirchner at point blank range outside her Recoleta home. The investigation seeks to determine the intellectual authors of the deed but has been plagued by allegations that its handling is politicized. 
Four members of Revolución Federal, to which Sabag Montiel had ties, were detained on October 20, but then released in November because the courts deemed there was no risk they would attempt to flee or interfere with the case.
