Three Buenos Aires bars crack World’s 50 Best list

Tres Monos, CoChinChina, and Floreria Atlántico were all recognized by the World’s 50 Best Bars Academy on Tuesday

Buenos Aires has long had some of the coolest bars of any major capital in the world. Now, industry insiders are taking notice.

On Tuesday, the World’s 50 Best Bars Academy released its selections for 2023, and three of the city’s establishments cracked the list: Tres Monos (11) and CoChinChina (26), both in Palermo, and Floreria Atlántico (30) in Retiro. The former, which ranked 27 in 2022, also earned a Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award, given to the bar that offers the most accommodating experience to its patrons.

In addition to these accolades, the Argentine Renato “Tato” Giovannoni received a Roku Industry Icon award for general excellence. His bar, Floreria Atlántico, has been a fixture on the World 50 Best Bars list since 2013 and has earned the distinction of Best Bar in South America eight separate times during that period.

The award ceremony was held at the Pasir Panjang Power Station in Singapore. It was the first to be held outside of Europe since the event began in 2012.

This year’s list featured bars from 28 different cities and 11 newcomers, including Bangkok, Berlin, Dubai, London, Melbourne, New Orleans, Paris, Rome, Seoul, Singapore, and Stockholm. A panel of 680 judges, including bartenders and consultants, crowned the sleek Sips in Barcelona the World’s Best Bar.

The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy was founded in 2009. Over the last 14 years, it has emerged as the world’s premier bar guide.

Tres Monos, a neon-infused dive, is located at Guatemala 4899, at the corner of Thames; the upscale CoChinChina is located at Armenia 1540, just off of Plaza Serrano; while the more rustic Floreria Atlántico is located on Arroyo 87, a block and a half away from the Emperador Hotel.
