Ten years after achieving Argentine tennis’s most glorious day, the Argentine Davis Cup team that won the 2016 tournament is meeting again to celebrate the anniversary of the triumph with the fans.
Juan Martín Del Potro, Federico Delbonis, Leonardo Mayer, Guido Pella, and captain Daniel Orsanic will take the field together once again on November 15 to celebrate with the fans and give them the chance to see the Argentine tennis stars in action once more.
The celebration is set to take place at the Parque Roca stadium in Buenos Aires City, which has long been the home of the Argentine Davis Cup team.
The team will play a special exhibition match, with national and international figures from the worlds of tennis, sports, and entertainment joining the celebration to pay tribute to one of the biggest achievements in Argentine sports.
The event will also feature brand activities, culinary offerings, and a musical performance by artists, serving as the day’s grand finale.
General ticket sales, accepting all forms of payment, begin on Friday, June 5, at 4:00 p.m. Argentina time, through the All Access ticketing platform, with up to six interest-free installments for Banco Ciudad clients.
An iconic win
The title came in 2016. After several unsuccessful attempts at winning tennis’ biggest international team tournament — including a tough defeat at home to Spain in 2008 — the chance presented itself once more.
Argentina took on Croatia away at Zagreb, but the win was an uphill battle. After the first two days of competition, the Argentine team was 2-1 down, with Del Potro and Mayer losing their doubles match after the two teams split the first set of singles matches.
On Sunday, it all looked over when Del Potro sat two sets to none down in the fourth match, but the Argentine Grand Slam and Olympic medal winner fought back to secure a fifth game.
There, Delbonis took on Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic, securing a win in straight sets and Argentina’s first and only Davis Cup win so far.
