Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, celebrated Monday’s bombing of Iran’s Evin prison on X using President Javier Milei’s most famous slogan. “¡Viva la libertad, carajo!” (Long live freedom, damn it!), Saar wrote in a post confirming Monday’s attack.

“We warned Iran time and again: stop targeting civilians!” he wrote.

“They continued, including this morning. Our response: Viva la libertad, carajo!”

He then tagged Milei’s X account in the post.

Evin prison is known for housing political prisoners, journalists, and Iranian activists. In the same post, Saar added: “We are carrying out a campaign to weaken and stop Iran. The attack on Evin was a direct message to those who imprison, torture, and kill those who fight for freedom.”

The use of the phrase “¡Viva la libertad, carajo!” in the context of a military attack drew attention in international media due to its symbolic connection to the Argentine government, although there was no official reaction from Buenos Aires at the time.

Iran threateneded Donald Trump following the attacks on its nuclear facilities, before launching missiles at a U.S. air base in Qatar.

The spokesperson for the Iranian Armed Forces, Ebrahim Zolfaghari told Trump: “You started the war, but we will finish it,” in a video released Monday.

“This hostile act will broaden the scope of legitimate targets for the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and will pave the way for the expansion of the war in the region,” he added, warning of “serious and unpredictable consequences with powerful operations.”

The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency meeting to address the U.S. attack on Iran, following a request made by Tehran. This will be the third such meeting since the conflict with Israel began.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through a statement to “take urgent and decisive measures in response to this terrible violation of international law.”

“Silence in the face of such a flagrant act of aggression would plunge the world into an unprecedented level of danger and chaos,” the statement said.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of “another cycle of destruction” and retaliation following the U.S. attacks on Iran. The diplomat spoke of a “dangerous turn” in the region.
