Argentina’s Milei to visit Trump before inauguration

A government source said that they are awaiting the US president-elect's invitation to confirm the date

Updated 1.10 p.m. and 4.54 p.m. to correct information on contacts between Milei and Trump and include the president’s travel dates.

Argentine President Javier Milei will travel on November 14 and 15 to the United States to meet with President-elect Donald Trump before the latter’s inauguration on January 20, a source from Casa Rosada confirmed to the Herald. They added that the government is waiting for a Trump invitation to confirm the date.

Initially, the source also said that Milei had spoken briefly with Trump on the phone Wednesday evening to congratulate him personally. However, a few hours later, the same source corrected themselves and stated that the Argentine president has not yet been in contact with the U.S. president-elect.

Earlier that same day, Milei had taken to social media to salute Trump on his “formidable electoral victory” against Democrat candidate Kamala Harris. The Argentine president offered his help so the Republican could carry out his “task.”

“Now, Make America Great Again,” Milei said in an X post published a few hours after Trump’s electoral win was confirmed. He added that Trump could “count on Argentina” and sent him “success and blessings.”

Milei also posted two AI-generated images of Trump hugging a humanoid lion — the animal he identifies himself with. “Make America great again. Long live freedom, dammit,” he wrote.

Milei has been very vocal about his admiration for Trump. The two met once backstage at a conservative conference in Washington in February. It was a brief encounter in which the pair hugged and praised each other, with Milei visibly moved. Trump also mentioned Milei in some of his speeches this year, saying he is “a great gentleman.”
