Biden calls Milei to congratulate him on his victory

According to a LLA press release, the president-elect also spoke to Dina Boluarte and Volodymyr Zelenskyy

US President Joe Biden spoke with president-elect Javier Milei on Wednesday, congratulating him on his victory in Sunday’s run-off.

“The two leaders discussed the importance of continuing to build on the strong relationship between the United States and Argentina on economic issues, on regional and multilateral cooperation, and on shared priorities,” said a White House communiqué, saying those shared priorities include “the protection of human rights, addressing food insecurity and investing in clean energy.”

When asked for further comment, the La Libertad Avanza press team pointed to a post on the X (formerly Twitter) account Oficina del Presidente Javier Milei, outlining that the president-elect also spoke to Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and Peru’s Dina Boluarte, who has expressed the desire to attend Milei’s inauguration.

Regarding the call with Biden, the press release echoed the need to strengthen bilateral relations. said Milei lauded him for “his management in gaining the freedom of hostages held by the terrorist group Hamas.” Nine Argentines have been killed since the October 7 attack on Israel and according to the Foreign Ministry, 21 have been kidnapped by Hamas — the youngest is a 10-month-old baby.
