Get Out! Arts in La Boca, Borges in Palermo, and fashion all around the city

We know you’ve been working hard (or was it hardly working?), and we’ve got some Herald recommendations to keep things classy in Buenos Aires this weekend.

In the newsroom, we’ve had some polarizing opinions about the winning alfajor at the alfajor championships. Who knew meringue could be so controversial?

And we’re all slowly trekking our way towards the weekend. Speaking of which, here’s our picks to make it a good one.

Open Arts District in La Boca

Saturday 24 — Noon to 6 p.m.

In celebration of the 154th anniversary of La Boca, 20 of the neighborhood’s cultural spaces are open to the public without charge. Visitors can explore museums, galleries, and cultural hubs including Usina del Arte, the Buenos Aires Film Museum, La Boca Contemporary Art Museum, and Colón Fábrica, which houses and exhibits sets, props and costumes from original opera and ballet productions staged in Argentina’s most renowned opera house.

The tour route is mapped out with a circuit of eight stops, and it can be done in any order. The stops have various exhibits and events going on, including The Teatro de la Ribera which is offering 50 free tickets to the musical “Benito de la Boca” at 3 p.m.

Shuttles are available to transport visitors for free between the various event locations on a first-come first-served basis, no reservations required. Some restaurants in the area will be offering discounts as well, in honor of the celebrations.
