A bigger, longer MUTEK festival returns to Buenos Aires

Electronic music lovers and digital art enthusiasts, rejoice. The sixth annual MUTEK festival kicked off on Wednesday, and this year’s event promises to be bigger — and last one day longer — than previous iterations.

This year, MUTEK.AR will focus on new technologies, including the paradigm-changing influence of AI in the development of digital creation. Artists performing and presenting their latest works include Ana Hagen, Bad Boy Orange & R3nder, Julián Tenembaum, and Melon Manga, to name just a few.

The festival features several programs throughout the week. One of them, Amplify Digital Arts Initiative, is a joint initiative of the British Council, Artlab, and the Williams Foundation. Since 2018, Amplify D.A.I. connects and empowers an active network of artists working in the digital arts, sound and immersive storytelling sectors in Canada, Latin America, and the United Kingdom. The program includes an Opening Party on Thursday after midnight, hosted by Ana Haguen and Camila Isabel. Tickets can be purchased here

Domo, which includes two separate screenings showcasing the work of artists Robbert Lippok, Lucas Gutierrez, Kazuya Nagaya, Ali M. Demirel, and Maurice Jones, will be held at the Planetario Galileo Galilei beginning on Friday at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets will be made available to the public after 12 p.m. here

From Friday to Sunday, the Artlab Cultural Center will be hosting Play — a pair of live shows featuring local and international artists. Play 1 will run from Friday to Saturday and Play 2 from Saturday to Sunday. Tickets are available for AR$20,000 and AR$25,000, depending on the seating, and can be purchased here and here.

Nocturno is billed as a “dionistic” experience and features electronic music from Jennifer Cardini, Ciel, Seph, Cia Rebeck, and Desglose that will keep your heart racing and legs moving through the early morning hours. The party kicks off at Deseo Club on Saturday at 10 p.m.. Tickets go for AR$25000 or AR$30000, pre-tax, and can be purchased here.

Finally, MUTEK will close its festivities with Experience at Casa Futuro, where the brand new Soundscape project will host a “multi-sensory” show featuring ambient and contemplative electronic music. That event will run from 4:00 to 9:15 pm, and tickets can be secured here.

Produced by Artlab, MUTEK.Ar is part of the MUTEK network, a non-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music, and audiovisual art. Its mandate is to provide a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields, with the purpose of developing new audiences.

Since its first festival in 2000, the MUTEK festival has distinguished itself as an international rendezvous for original and avant-garde programming. Today, the MUTEK network ramifies throughout North America, South America, Asia and Europe, providing a platform to promote and explore wide-ranging artistic content while reflecting a global cultural effervescence.
