Argentine Malbec goes viral after Britney Spears shares pic on Instagram

Regularly available for US$10, this Reserva Malbec produced by Norton wineries is now being sold with a special discount

Britney Spears shared an image on Instagram of a glass of wine next to a bottle of Norton Reserva Malbec 2019, an Argentine wine produced in the Luján de Cuyo region of Mendoza. The pop icon accompanied the picture with a caption saying that the drink was her “first time with real wine” and that the drink tasted “extremely good.”

Britney’s wine choice did not go unnoticed among social media users in Argentina, who quickly re-shared the post, generating a wave of enthusiastic comments and memes. The star later deactivated her Instagram account for personal reasons, but not before making an impact on the Argentine wine world.

Norton Winery noticed the bump in popularity and decided to celebrate it with a special offer. New clients can buy the same wine with a 25% discount on their website. Each bottle is sold for a regular price of AR $9,039 (US$10 at the official rate, US$8.73 at the MEP rate), but with the “Britney” coupon, the final price for six bottles is AR$40,675.50 (US$45.49 and US$39).

According to their website, Norton Reserva is a blend of terroirs, meaning grapes grown in different types of soil. This particular blend combines select grapes from two different terroirs, Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco.

This wine is perfect for those who like very intense red wine. According to the winery, the taste in the mouth is persistent, displaying the subtle friendliness characteristic of Malbec and notes of ripe, acidic fruits. It is processed for 12 months in French oak barrels of second and third use.

Norton wines are sold in over 70 countries. It was the first Argentine Malbec to be exported to the United States in 1973. The winery, founded in 1895, was the first vineyard planted south of the Mendoza River.
