‘Elijo Creer,’ the official Argentina 2022 World Cup film, hits theaters December 7

The documentary includes testimonies from the World Cup winners and is narrated by Ricardo Darín

The official Argentina 2022 World Cup film, called Elijo Creer (I chose to believe) will hit theaters on Thursday, December 7. The documentary, co-produced by GM, Tronito, Grupo Octubre, and Argentina’s Football Association, will be an insider account of the country’s footballing triumph as told by the players, with narration by renowned actor Ricardo Darín.

“It’s very hard to find something that unites people the way football does,” said Darín in a recent interview with Infobae about the film. The actor, one of Argentina’s most prolific, is the protagonist of El Secreto de sus Ojos, the Argentine film that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009. “People put everything aside.Remember what happened at the Obelisk when five million people waited for the national team, that’s crazy. It shows that any kind of differences are left behind and everyone joins in support.”

With a runtime of 80 minutes, the film explores the build-up to Qatar 2022, the events of the World Cup, and the title win from the eyes of the Albiceleste players, including Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, Rodrigo de Paul, Angel Di María,and Lionel Messi and head coach Lionel Scaloni.

“The world champions are the real protagonists ,” said producer Pablo González in the advanced screening press conference. “We’re thrilled with it. It’s a movie made by Argentines for the Argentine people, who united as a country in a way we’ve seen a few times before. They forgot their differences to support this group of lads who achieved a dream we’ve been chasing for many years.”

The film will be released on Thursday in theaters across the country, on the same day as Muchachos, la película del Mundial, another documentary dedicated to the Qatar 2022 triumph.
