Iconic Luna Park stadium announces renovation agreement

The venue will undergo a major renovation and expansion as part of this new partnership

The Luna Park stadium, one of Buenos Aires’ most legendary sports and music venues, has announced a set of renovations.

DF Entertainment, along with its partner Live Nation, signed an agreement with stadium management to renovate the site and manage it comprehensively for the coming decades.

Originally inaugurated in 1932 as a boxing stadium, Luna Park has become one of the most important cultural venues in Latin America. It has hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavarotti, and Astor Piazzolla, as well as legendary boxing matches. It has also been the venue chosen for once-in-a-lifetime events, such as the visit of Pope John Paul II to Buenos Aires in 1987, Argentine football superstar Diego Maradona’s wedding party — which hosted over 1200 guests — in 1989, and the funeral of legendary tango singer Carlos Gardel in 1936.

While it was declared a National Historic Monument in 2007, its last major renovation took place in the mid-20th century, leaving it in need of a comprehensive modernization to meet global standards in live entertainment.

The renovation project

The project was designed to preserve and enhance the original structure and conserve the facades and its historic signage. The plan includes a Luna Park Museum honoring its history, improved acoustics and sightlines to enhance the concert experience, and expanded food and beverage areas, among other key improvements.

The works also aim to bring Luna Park up to modern standards of accessibility and sustainability. Optimized entry and exit routes for audiences and technical crews will be implemented while also aiming to minimize impact on the neighborhood. There will also be integration of sustainable energy systems, aligned with international efficiency and sustainability standards.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have been chosen, together with our partners at Live Nation, as the sole entities responsible for renewing the most important cultural venue in Argentina’s history,” said DF Entertainment founder Diego Finkelstein in a press release.

“Our wish is that the stadium regains the brilliance that defined it throughout so many decades of history and memorable events,” stated the shareholders of Estadio Luna Park S.A.
