Argentina’s air traffic controllers have announced a week-long intermittent strike from November 16 to November 22. Their union, ATEPSA, apologized in advance for the “delays and complications” the measure will cause.
The union clarified that the strikes will exclusively affect aircraft takeoffs at all airports in the country. Flights with an emergency on board, as well as medical, humanitarian, state, and search and rescue flights, are exempted from the strike action.
The strike will affect:
- International flights on Saturday, November 16, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- General aviation flights (private or recreational) and those from non-scheduled airlines on Monday, November 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- All flights on Wednesday, November 20, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- All flights on Friday, November 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The union urged passengers to check with their service providers, as they considered them the responsible party for publishing the corresponding information.
The government has been clashing with pilots and airport workers for months, who have been protesting for salary increases since the start of President Javier Milei’s administration.
In light of these protests, lawmakers from the right-wing PRO party have filed a bill to privatize national flagship Aerolíneas Argentinas, and the government deregulated the airport ramp-operation service.
