Milei’s chief advisor Demian Reidel resigns

The physicist and economist said he will continue to lead Nucleoeléctrica S.A., the state-owned company that manages nuclear power plants

President Javier Milei accepted the resignation of Demian Reidel from his position as head advisor to the Office of the President. The decision was formalized on Monday through Decree 481/2025, published in the Official Gazette.

“The resignation submitted by Dr. Demian Axel Reidel from the position of Head of the Advisors Staff to the Office of the President is hereby accepted as of July 17, 2025,” the brief official text states.

Through his social media account, Reidel — who had taken office at the beginning of Milei’s administration — addressed his resignation and stated that he had resigned in order to focus on the other government position he has held since last April: the presidency of Nucleoeléctrica S.A. The state-owned company that manages the Embalse, Atucha I, and Atucha II nuclear power plants was subject to partial privatization following the passing of the Bases Bill.

“I am leaving the presidency of the Advisors Board to fully concentrate, as president of Nucleoeléctrica, on the development of the Argentine Nuclear Plan,” Reidel tweeted.

“The plan includes the construction of Argentina’s first modular reactor, extending the life of our power plants, promoting uranium mining, the creation of YPF Nuclear, and many other strategic initiatives. It is a state policy aimed at recovering energy sovereignty and boosting the country’s scientific and technological development,” he stated.

Reidel also emphasized he remains a part of the government. “My support for President Javier Milei and the policies of this administration is absolute and unwavering. Furthermore, we continue to write a book on economic theory together with a revolutionary vision of growth based on increasing returns to scale. My personal commitment is total.”
