Milei announced Carolina Píparo will be his candidate for BA province governor

A former PRO party member, she became part of La Libertad Avanza in 2021

Carolina Píparo will be Buenos Aires province governor candidate for La Libertad Avanza, the ultra-right party led by Javier Milei. Her running mate will be criminal defense attorney Francisco Oneto. The announcement was made through a statement sent out by Milei and then posted on his social media accounts.

Carolina Píparo was the victim of a tragic incident in July 2010. Eight months pregnant at the time, she was robbed outside of a bank and shot in the face. She was hospitalized and underwent surgery, but lost her pregnancy.

Píparo’s candidacy comes after Chivilcoy Mayor Guillermo Britos confirmed on June 14 that he would not be the party’s governor candidate. La Libertad Avanza leader and presidential hopeful Javier Milei had previously offered him a place on the ticket for the October general elections.

Píparo started her political career in 2017, getting elected provincial Congress deputy for the PRO party. In 2021, one day before the deadline to present candidates for national Congress, she resigned from her position and swung to La Libertad Avanza, the party for which she won her current seat as national deputy.

“Carolina gathers the qualities whoever governs Buenos Aires province must have. Moral and ethical integrity, tough on crime and coherence. It is an honor for her to join us,” said Milei in a statement released to the press.

The La Libertad Avanza presidential candidate called Píparo “a person who has fought tirelessly against insecurity, the main scourge suffered by the people of Buenos Aires along with inflation.”

“Our proposal is zero tolerance to crime.”

Milei also mentioned the vice-governor candidate, Francisco Oneto, is a criminal defense attorney specialized in Criminal Law and Criminology (UBA), a former member of the CABA Public Bar Association Defense Committee, and an international lecturer.

Píparo thanked Milei in the press release. “I thank Javier for his trust in me to keep spreading the ideas of freedom to the whole province.”

“I know we can make a difference because we’re different, we came with everything against us, but telling the truth and clearly saying what we came to do in the country and the province.”

“We came to take power away from the criminals and are going to give it back to the people,” she added.

Piparo also highlighted that their priority “is security.” “That criminals think twenty times before going out into the street to ruin the lives of the neighbors.”

“We have practical and possible ideas, we are going to put an end to the revolving door and it is going to be the criminals who are afraid. We are ready to put the province on the path to prosperity,” she remarked.

Oneto emphasized that Milei is a representative of new politics, “an indisputable leader who must be supported.” He also pointed out that “roads are meant for movement and not protest” and that “repression must be destigmatized.”
