Diego von Vacano, PhD, is a political scientist and journalist. Originally from Bolivia, he currently works on the Latin American energy sector and on international sports. He has a focus on the geopolitics of critical minerals in the "Lithium Triangle" of Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. His book on the topic will appear with Oxford University Press in late 2026. He has also done international football coverage since 1990, including Champions League finals and Copa Libertadores. He received his PhD from Princeton, Masters from Harvard's Kennedy School and BA from Wesleyan University. He is currently a minerals and journalism fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC.
