La Parolaccia: Italian pasta and burrata meets Argentine wines in Buenos Aires

A landmark in the local restaurant scene, La Parolaccia has become synonymous with porteño-style Mediterranean food

When La Parolaccia was first founded in the Rome neighborhood of Trastévere, diners could be sure of one thing: they’d be received with gusto. So much so, in fact, that the family owners named their restaurant “parolaccia” — roughly, the swear word.

It’s now been 28 years since La Parolaccia brought its Italian and Mediterranean cuisine to Buenos Aires, and it has flourished on its traditional recipes, complete menu, and warm, engaging ambience.

Signature appetizers include prosciutto, bocconcini, spianata, artichokes, olives, and mortadella with pistachios.

Yet, La Parolaccia’s forte is its fresh, homemade pasta, and the seafood spaghetti, lasagne, and sorrentinos are favorites. Those more in the mood for rice might try the mushroom risotto. Other highlights? Burrata with prosciutto, carpaccio di manzo with arugula and Parmesan cheese, and melanzane alla Parmigiana — aubergine gratin with fresh tomato.

Carnivores will appreciate the Argentine bife de chorizo prepared with traditional Italian techniques, served with arugula, pomegranate, and tomato sauce, as well as the Milanese di vitello with fettuccine Alfredo.

If you have special dietary requirements, fear not: vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are also available.

The dessert menu is a festival of Italian favorites such as tiramisu al mascarpone, a warm “chocolate seduction,” and their twist on European cakes such as apple tarte tatin.

The food might be European, but the wines are emphatically Argentine: staff can advise on pairings. However, don’t leave without trying the limoncello.

A generous set menu offers three courses, wine, soft drinks, tea or coffee, and aperitifs (hello limoncello). There’s also a three-course lunch menu.
