Argentine league full-court buzzer beater winner amazes Manu Ginóbili

Ferro point guard Emiliano Lezcano's 27-meter shot stunned the basketball world and is earning high praise

Ferro point guard Emiliano Lezcano became an instant Argentine basketball legend on Wednesday when he scored a 27-meter buzzer beater to give his team a 76-73 win over Boca Juniors.

The shot came after a highly contested Liga Nacional playoff quarterfinal match at Ferro’s Héctor Etchart Stadium. With the game tied 73-73 and just 1.6 seconds left on the clock, the matchup looked set for overtime.

Boca attempted a drawing board play to score the winner, but Lezcano intercepted the play. With the ball in his hands, he turned and instantly swung it forward, a heave that fell perfectly inside the ring and sent the team and its fans inside the stadium into a frenzy.

The game-winner left no one indifferent. The Liga Nacional called it “the best shot in league history” on its social media accounts.

Athens 2004 Olympic gold medalist and four-time NBA champion Emanuel “Manu” Ginóbili weighed in, admitting he’s “never seen anything like it before.” Former teammate Andrés “Chapu” Nocioni made a sarcastic comment about how most fans were probably watching the NBA Finals at the time. “What’s the NBA? You little fools! Take a look at the ending of Ferro v. Boca in the Liga Nacional,” he wrote on his X account.

The play wasn’t Lezcano’s only highlight of the match, as he led scoring for his team with 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. In the play right before his long-range shot, the 24-year-old guard had run the whole court after grabbing a rebound to score the layup that tied the game.

The result leaves Ferro with a 2-1 lead in the quarterfinals. They will host Boca once again on Friday with the chance to win the series and book a place in the semifinals.
