Tributes have been pouring in from around the world for the Argentine pontiff, who originally hailed from the Flores neighborhood in the country’s capital city of Buenos Aires.

In recent months, he had been experiencing health issues, which kept him from his official duties as pope. In recent weeks, his health was considered to be improving after he exited intensive care, and he returned to many of his responsibilities.

Francis was the first Latin American pope to lead the Catholic Church. His papacy began in 2013 and continued for 12 years until his final Easter service yesterday.
