Get Out! Your guide to the best plans in Buenos Aires this weekend

Recommendations for art openings, tennis competitions, and a Taylor Swift-themed artisan market

It feels like we’ve started these weekend recommendations with the phrase, “It’s been a week” more times than journalistically appropriate. But the thing is, we kind of hoped it would stop being a week. We kept thinking we’d peaked as far as politically traumatic moments go.

But the peaks just keep coming.

We’re no shrink, but we find that it’s easier to take the lows when you cut them with a little bit of time off. As such, here’s our recommendations to catch a breather. Whether that means watching tennis professionals battle it out, or buying Taylor Swift themed tchotchke. The weekend is yours for the taking.

Entangled Others at Artlab

Artlab is inaugurating its first exhibition from renowned visual artists of the “Entangled Others” project, a collaboration of Argentine Sofía Crespo and Norwegian Feileacan Kirkbride McCormick. Their work explores the connections between the biological and the artificial, through an immersive experience that reflects on the intersection of technology, biology, and creativity.

On Thursday night the exhibition will be kicking off with Sofía Crespo at the gallery presenting her work. “Entangled Others” pieces have previously been exhibited in venues such as Times Square (New York), the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), and Sónar +D (Barcelona).

This current exhibit includes three of their projects:

  • Decohering Delineation: A piece that combines neural networks and marine data to explore the interconnections between natural and artificial ecosystems.
  • Sediment Nodes: This project delves into the complexity of particles suspended in murky waters, revealing the richness of life and color hidden in the sediment.
  • Critically Extant: An exploration of critically endangered species, created using algorithms trained with open-source images.

Argentina Open

The 2025 Argentina Open starts on Saturday, the tournament is one of the most important and prestigious in South American tennis. Taking place for the 25th time, the country’s biggest tennis tournament runs until February 16 — and the names on the fixtures suggest tennis fans are in for a treat.

The biggest star taking to the Guillermo Vilas court this year will be world number two Alexander Zverev. The German player is fresh from his third Grand Slam final. Among the locals taking part, top-ranked Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo and former world number 18 Sebastián Báez are among the crowd favorites.

Prices depend on the location, the day of the week, and whether it’s a daytime or nighttime game. As the rounds go by, the price increases: semifinals and finals tickets start at AR$75,000 (US$72,5 at the official rate, US$63,6 at the MEP rate).

Get lost in Swift-inspired merch, and expect a lot of Valentine’s day themed swag (the theme is Swiftie Fair, My Love, inspired by Argentine pop duo Miranda!). The fair takes place on the ground floor, but Mercat has two floors full of shops, photo spots, and outdoor space.
