The governors of northern Argentina, led by Santiago del Estero provincial Governor Gerardo Zamora, met with leaders of BID Invest and over 400 private-sector representatives at the Santiago del Estero Forum exhibition center in the provincial capital on Friday.

They came together for the event “BID Invest: financing opportunities for the private sector in Argentina’s Great North,” which seeks to promote innovative financial solutions to enable Argentina to meet the UN’s sustainable development goals for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Argentina’s new Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein attended the meeting, as did the president of BID Invest, James Scriven, and the BID’s representative in Argentina, Viviana Alva Hart.

BID Invest is part of the Inter-American Development Bank (or BID, by its Spanish initials) that focuses on private sector and capital market development in the region. It is currently looking to support projects in the areas of clean energy, agriculture modernization, transport systems, and financial inclusion.

In addition to Zamora, the other governors present were Osvaldo Jaldo (Tucumán), Carlos Sadir (Jujuy), Gildo Insfrán (Formosa), Leandro Zdero (Chaco), Gustavo Valdés (Corrientes), Raúl Jalil (Catamarca), Ricardo Quintela (La Rioja), Hugo Passalacqua (Misiones) and Salta’s Vice Governor, Antonio Oscar Marocco. The 10 provinces each sent delegations of up to 70 people to the event.
