Get Out! Night of the Museums, a skating competition, and Cocktail Week

Get a little messy while staying classy this weekend with an agenda that ranges from boozy book events to open doors to some of Buenos Aires’ most iconic spaces

This weekend is proof that Buenos Aires knows how to put on a party, here’s your Herald recommendations for taking it as hard or as easy as you’d like.

From some of the world’s best skateboarders pitting it against each other on the steps of the Facultad de Derecho, to La Francachela (and post-Francachela) book and wine party. We’ve got plans to help you forget that democracy is currently a dumpster fire.

La Noche de los Museos

Saturday 9 — 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Various locations across the city
Free entry

If you’re only going to leave the house once this weekend, make it for this event. It’s the twentieth edition of the Night of the Museums and we promise you, it’s everything it’s hyped up to be. More than 250 locations, all sorts of iconic buildings, cultural institutions, and the very best museums — places that typically charge an entry fee or are restricted to public access — open their doors for free.

You can visit the famous Confitería del Molino, an emblematic art nouveau building and cafe from 1916 that was closed for more than twenty years and was recently restored. It will be open for the general public featuring live music and tango dancing. Or head to Congreso de la Nación, the Congress building where you can actually go into the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

Free transport is also available, details for accessing the transportation are on the event webpage.

Red Bull BA Conquest

Saturday 9 — 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Stairs of the Facultad de Derecho, UBA (Av. Pres. Figueroa Alcorta 2263)
Free entry (limited space, entry on a first-come-first-served basis)

Celebrate Buenos Aires’ skate culture this weekend. The Red Bull Buenos Aires Conquest will transform the University of Buenos Aires Law School into a skatepark inspired by Buenos Aires’ emblematic spots.

The competition will house the biggest national and international skate stars, such as Argentine Aldana Bertran, Peruvian Angelo Caro, and Brazilian Leticia Buffoni and Gabryel Aguilar — also former Red Bull Rio Conquest 2023 winner.

Each participant will have three minutes to demonstrate their skills in a 1v1 elimination format. The judges will decide who goes to the next round until two competitors are left to fight in the final for the title.

Cocktail Week

Runs through Sunday 10
Bars and venues across the city

We didn’t really need a strong argument for including this event in our recommendations — a cocktail week does a pretty good job of holding its own. More than 100 bars across the city are joining in the festivities, including some of Buenos Aires’ most iconic locations.

You can expect discounts, cocktail enthusiast experiences, and free masterclasses at the Teatro Premier. Check out the semifinals and finals of the Cocktail Bar Awards in order to see the best of Argentine mixology. A full agenda of the festival’s events is available online.

La Francachela

Saturday 9 — 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Aristipo Libros (Scalabrini Ortiz 605)
Free entry

It is with much confidence that we say that no city in the world blends partying and literature quite as well as Buenos Aires. Point in case: La Francachela. This street party organized by used books store Aristipo Libros has music, chori, wine, good books, beautiful people, and everything else you could want on a Saturday night filled with alcohol and education.

And because the party never really stops at 1:30 a.m. there’s a post-Francachela at La Quince Cultural Space (Corrientes 5426) with free entry, a bar and a DJ. Just like that, we’ve leveled up your weekend.
