From the International Literature Festival to the Festival Nueva Ópera Buenos Aires, here’s our recommendations for making this weekend a cultured one

If the thought of sipping on a glass of Cabernet Franc, listening to jazz and browsing through records perks your interest, we’ve got you covered with this weekend’s Buenos Aires recommendations.

Cine fans are in luck this weekend as well — movie tickets are going for AR$2,500 from Thursday through Wednesday, October 2 as part of the ‘Fiesta del Cine’. Lots of cinemas around the city will offer the promotion, a list of participating movie theaters is online.

FILBA 2024 — International Literature Festival

The 16th International Literature Festival is a four-day event that takes place in different venues across Buenos Aires, a full program of the schedule is available online. 

The festival features discussions, workshops and readings with Argentine and international authors. You can buy books, get signed copies, chat with authors or participate in Open Library, a used book trading event. The festival includes evening outings as well such as film showings, poetry readings and parties.

FNOBA 2024 — Festival Nueva Ópera Buenos Aires

It’s the opening weekend of the Festival Nueva Ópera Buenos Aires, events will run through Sunday, October 13. Fifteen shows will take place across a variety of days and times, the free entry can be reserved online. Performances will combine different arts and disciplines, with everything ranging from works for military musicians to an opera about two friends who are rocks.

On opening night of the festival, Thursday September 26, there will be a performance of  “Journey to the Cathedral of Saint Monica of the Venison,” featuring Welsh singer and multimedia artist Deborah Claire Procter.

Aldo’s Wine Fair

Aldo’s is having an open-air wine fair on their terrace curated by sommelier Aldo Graziani. The event will feature special pricing with more than 30 types of wines available by the glass from all kinds of wineries — micro projects to traditional bodegas. There will be a range of wines including sparkling wines, ciders, orange wines, fortified wines and many more. 

A special maritozzi menu will also be available, these are soft sweet buns with a variety of toppings. The wine-focused event will include live jazz music. You can also browse for books and vinyls in the Marciana Publishing and Exiles Records stands.
