Milei to visit Trump in the White House

The Argentine president is set to meet his US counterpart on October 14

Argentine President Javier Milei will visit his US counterpart, Donald Trump, at the White House on October 14.

The pair had met last week in New York during the United Nations General Assembly, in a short meeting where Trump declared that Miei had his “complete and total endorsement for re-election as president.”

After that meeting, the U.S. Treasury announced it would grant a full-on bailout for Argentina, including the purchase of the country’s USD bonds, a stand-by credit line, and a US$20 billion swap with the Central Bank.

“The Trump Administration is resolute in our support for allies of the United States, and President Trump has given President Milei a rare endorsement of a foreign official, showing his confidence in his government’s economic plans and the geopolitical strategic importance of the relationship between the United States and Argentina,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted on X.

The announcement momentarily calmed the markets, but after days passed and it did not come to fruition, Argentine bonds and shares plummeted again.

A communiqué by Argentina’s Presidential Press Office said that the upcoming meeting “will mark a new stage in strengthening the strategic alliance between the two nations, based on shared values and a shared commitment to life, liberty, and private property.”

The statement added that Milei will be housed at Blair House, the residence designated for heads of state visiting the United States.
