This long weekend in Buenos Aires is all across the board — from an EU run to a Shakespeare Festival to a Tetris tournament, there’s a recommendation to keep everyone entertained.

European Union Buenos Aires Run
Sunday, May 11 — 8 a.m. to noon
Bosques de Palermo, starting line at the Intersection of Dorrego and Figueroa Alcorta
Entrance to run costs ARS$20,000 to ARS$30,000 depending on distance
It’s time to sign up for the fourth edition of the European Union Buenos Aires Run, taking place on May 11 in the Bosques de Palermo in celebration of Europe Day in Argentina. Part of the funds raised will go to the civil society organization TECHO Argentina.
More than 5,000 runners are expected to participate, you can choose between three distances — 15km, 7km and 2km. Register online by April 25.
Throughout the day, the Bosques de Palermo will feature various interactive spaces including a space by TECHO where you can help to build a home for a family in need, a kids’ zone where children can draw and color illustrations inspired by the theme of solidarity, and an open-air food fair offering traditional dishes from various European Union countries.

Tetris tournament
Saturday 19 — 4 to 6 p.m.
Café San Bernardo (Av. Corrientes 5436, Villa Crespo)
Registration fee is ARS$7000 per person, per tournament
This one’s a throwback, but we couldn’t not include it. Dust off your Tetris skills and head over to Café San Bernardo to show them how it’s done. Battle it out for the grand prize of bar credits — drinks and snacks on them, baby.
Expect good food, good music, and a chance to put all those hours you invested in retro videogames to the test. This is their first ever (and probably not last) Tetris tournament, and it will be played on the classic 90s Nintendo (the NES). Everyone plays 3 matches, no matter what, and the winner is the first to reach 30 or 60 lines (it’s not based on points). You’ve got this, we believe in you.

The Passion of Joan of Arc film showing with live music
Saturday 19 — 8 p.m.
Auditorio Nacional, Palacio Libertad (Sarmiento 151, Microcentro)
Free, tickets must be reserved online in advance
In collaboration with the Fundación Cinemateca Argentina, a special evening of film and music will be held at the National Auditorium. Carl Theodor Dreyer’s classic The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) will be screened with its original score performed live by the Libertador San Martín National Youth Symphony Orchestra and the National Polyphonic Choir of the Blind, under the direction of Santiago Chotsourian.
The film, considered one of the masterpieces of silent cinema, will be shown in a restored print. The only complete original score in the world is preserved in the archives of the Fundación Cinemateca Argentina.
The screening will be accompanied by a series of activities exploring its historical and cinematic significance: a poster exhibition in the Hall of Shields, two screenings of the documentary Nitrate Flames (Mirko Stopar, 2014) in the María Luisa Bemberg Room on the sixth floor, and a talk on silent film in the Hall of Honor by Marcela Cassinelli, president of the Fundación Cinemateca Argentina.

Buenos Aires Shakespeare Festival
Events run through Saturday April 26
Starting at ARS $1,000, tickets can be purchased online
British Art Centre (Suipacha 1333, Retiro)
The Buenos Aires Shakespeare Festival is taking place at the British Art Centre through Saturday, April 26. The event includes a combination of film screenings, talks, live festival screenings from London, performances, and live music to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday.
Join in the celebrations and pay homage to the legendary playwright, as the festival works to bridge the gap between Buenos Aires and London. This event is put on by the British Embassy in Buenos Aires in collaboration with Fundación Romeo and the British Arts Centre, among others.
This festival also marks ten years of the Shakespeare in Schools program — an initiative to bring Shakespeare out of dusty museums, and into the lives of students in Argentina. Check out the event page online to see all of the activities and purchase tickets to attend.
