Get Out! Drag, design, and more food than is probably healthy

From fresh Italian pastas to fermented Korean kimchi, here’s our recommendations to make the long weekend last as long as possible

If Buenos Aires was a weekend, it would be this one — heavy on the food, impeccable design, and a drag show. Sounds about right.

Over here at the Herald, we’re still mourning election results. But we can’t deny the fact that the weather is gorgeous, and the mosquitoes haven’t completely taken over the city (yet). So here’s our recommendations for feeding your body and soul, from kimchi to drag kings, make this long weekend count.

Carrera de Reyes

One of the best things Buenos Aires has to offer are its shows, from the fantastic to the odd, to the funny to the heartwrenching, you can find it all in this city. This drag king event is no exception.

The show is a competition with two categories, the first welcomes all kinds of drag and encourages beginners. The second category is a fight for the crown, with drag kings wielding their best tricks until the final two face off in a lip sync battle.

If you’re looking for a solid night out, this is the place to be. From the performers, to the crowd, everyone is just there to have a good time.

Gastro Corea Food Week 2024

Korean restaurants around the city

You don’t have to ask us twice to say yes to a week dedicated to kimchi and sauces. This event, in celebration of National Kimchi Day on November 22, is sponsored in part by the Korean Embassy in Argentina.

Eighteen restaurants and bakeries will offer discounts and special menus created around the ancestral flavors of Korea. Participating restaurants are listed online, they include venues like Una Cancion Coreana, Kikiriki, and Kimchi Garden. There will also be community tables and pop-ups.

Keep an eye out on the Korean Embasssy’s social media accounts as well — they’ll be offering giveaways for the event.

Casa FOA 2024

If you’re an admirer of cool spaces, then you need to check out Casa FOA, it’s non-negotiable. Casa FOA is basically this huge building with lots of different spaces sectioned off that are all designed by relevant architecture and interior design firms.

This is the 40th edition of Casa FOA, and as such there will be 40 different areas featured. Each year it takes place in a different building, this time it’s in the Edificio Del Plata.  It’s a popular event that prides itself in presenting the latest trends in architecture, design and industry. The theme this year is “Inside the Box,” with the implication that well-designed spaces draw you in.

Essentially you walk around this building, and check out the different areas that have been created in the space. Some of them are designed like different sections of a house, like a bedroom, or an outdoor area. While other zones will feature a cafe, art installations, a design shop, an auditorium, etc. The designer’s unique touch is visible in each section.

Italian Food Fair

This food fair in La Boca kicks off the global Italian Cuisine Week. The fair on Saturday is held in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Argentina, and will feature vendors selling pizza, fresh pasta, artisanal ice cream, coffee, cocktails, wine, oil, and cheeses. If that’s not enough to get you down there, you can also expect prizes and a live DJ.

Italian Cuisine Week in the World runs from November 16 through 22, and showcases traditional recipes and agri-food products from many of Italy’s regions. There’s more than 60 initiatives organized around Argentina for the event — such as tastings, masterclasses, culinary tours, film screenings and conferences.
