Buenos Aires is buzzing with cultural events this weekend lined up for winter break — from a reading party at the MALBA to The Little Prince the musical, here’s your Herald recommendations.

Children’s and Young Adult Book Fair

The 33rd Children’s and Young Adult Book Fair offers a cultural outing for winter break filled with a multitude of exhibitors. Kids and families can enjoy hands-on illustration workshops, book stands, storytelling events, and a special Comic Festival. Publishers, bookstores, institutions, and distributors will be present, a full list of exhibitors is available online.
This year’s featured illustrator is Nehuén Costa who designed the animal characters showcased in the festival. The opening ceremony (Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m.) includes a keynote by award-winning writer María Teresa Andruetto.

Fiesta Bomba — Día del Amigx

Celebrate Día del Amigx in style this Saturday with La Bomba de Tiempo’s legendary Fiesta Bomba at Konex. Argentines have a Día del Amigo that is set on July 20 inspired by the 1969 moon landing, it’s a day where they usually get together with friends, and an especially busy occasion for restaurants and bars.
Known for their explosive percussion shows, La Bomba de Tiempo headlines a night of nonstop rhythm, joy, and dancing. Special guests Los Charros bring cumbia classics to the stage, while DJs Pato Smink and Emiliata keep the party going into the early hours. Celebrate friendship with an evening of surprises, a buzzing bar, and a full dance floor.

This Tuesday, MALBA hosts its 22nd Fiesta de la Lectura, a free winter break event that transforms the museum into a living library. Families can explore children’s book collections, participate in Kamishibai theater, creative workshops, and readings by acclaimed writers like María Negroni and Romina Paula.
The event also features a fanzine fair, curated lending library, and access to current exhibitions. With no screens in sight and spaces reimagined for shared reading, it’s a day of literature, art, and imagination — culminating in a musical toast to celebrate the joy of books and storytelling.
