EU Buenos Aires Running race running in Argentina 2024

The verdant parks of the Bosques de Palermo will host the European Union-Buenos Aires Race 2024, to be held on May 5, starting at 8 a.m. The event will include 7-kilometer and 15km running races, as well as a 2km walk.

“The race is aimed at building bridges between Argentines and Europeans. It is open to everyone, from elite athletes to debutants, and is done with solidarity purposes,” European Union Ambassador Amador Sánchez Rico said during an event presenting the race at the French Embassy in Buenos Aires.

Runners can sign up online. The fees are:

-15K — AR$15,000 (US$17 at the official rate, US$15 at the MEP rate)

-7K —  AR$13,000 (US$15/US$13)

-2K (walk) — AR$10,000 (US$12/US$10)

To complete the admissions process, participants must upload a doctor’s note certifying that they are healthy enough to run. This is known as an apto médico and the tests can take a few weeks to complete.

Athletes can also register in person at the Palermo Deporcamping store. Race kits can be picked up on Friday, May 3, from 1 p.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

“This race marks the road towards the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, where we hope to achieve an important milestone: full gender equality in the number of athletes,” French Ambassador Romain Nadal said at the event’s presentation.

He added that French-Argentine footballer David Trezeguet, who won the 1998 World Cup with France, is championing this year’s run and will be at the race.

The 2022 and 2023 EU-Buenos Aires races were run by over 9,000 runners over the two races, and over 5,000 are expected this year. In the spirit of the Paris 2024 games, the race aims to uphold “Olympic values” including excellence, friendship, and respect.

Part of the proceeds will go to the Argentine Confederation of Athleticism (CADA, by its Spanish initials) and Fundación Baccigalupo, which seeks to improve the lives of people with mental disabilities through sports.

The race is part of the worldwide celebrations to honor Europe Day (May 9), which commemorates the 1950 Schuman Declaration. This proposed the pooling of the French, Italian, and West German coal and steel industries, leading to the establishment of the European community.
