Argentina has missed out on the FIFA U-20 World Cup quarter-finals, losing 2-0 to Nigeria at the San Juan del Bicentenario stadium, in the province of San Juan.

Both goals were scored in the second half of the game, with Ibrahim Muhammad gaining the lead in the 60th minute and Rilwanu Sarki consolidating the win with a header from inside the box at the very end of the game (91st minute).

“Unfortunately the two slip-ups we made ended up being goals,” said Argentine coach Javier Mascherano on the Argentine side’s Twitter account. “The team tried anyway, we have nothing to reproach them for because they left everything on the pitch.”

“Football is like that, sometimes it gives and sometimes it takes. Today, we have to congratulate Nigeria.”

This means that Nigeria joins Israel, Italy, Colombia, Brazil, and the U.S in the group of teams that have qualified for the quarter finals.
