Argentina beat Australia 2-0 with Messi scoring the fastest goal of his career

The match also saw the debut of Spanish-born Alejandro Garnacho, who chose to play for Argentina

Argentina’s national team beat Australia today for 2–0, with goals by team captain Lionel Messi and Germán Pezzella. The friendly match was played at the Worker’s Stadium in Beijing, China, where the world champion albiceleste kicked off their current Asian tour.

Messi’s goal came after a marvelous dribble only 80 seconds into the game, a record–breaker for Lio, as he had never scored within the first two minutes of a game in his entire career. Germán Pezzella, who replaced Otamendi, widened the gap with a header after a pass from DePaul, 22 minutes into the second half.

The match also featured the debut of Manchester United player Alejandro Garnacho, a Spanish-born son of Argentine parents. A recent FIFA decision allowed the promising attacker to play for Argentina despite his European origins.

The Scaloneta’s rival next week will be Indonesia. The match is scheduled for next Monday at 9.30 a.m. (Argentina time) at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium, in Jakarta. Messi already announced he will not be with the team for that game, as he will reportedly begin his vacations after a turbulent exit from Paris Saint-Germain before his new beginning playing for Inter Miami in the US.
