A 9-year-old girl died after being shot in the head on Monday when armed attackers attempted to rob her father, a federal police agent who works as a guard in Security Minister Patricia Bullrich’s detail. The crime took place shortly after 9.15 a.m. in the town of Villa Centenario in the Buenos Aires suburb of Lomas de Zamora, judiciary and hospital sources reported.

“They murdered Umma. These criminals are beyond forgiveness,” said Bullrich shortly before 3 p.m. on X (formerly Twitter), the first official confirmation of her death.  “We will search for them until we find them. We stand by the parents, María Eugenia and Eduardo, in this terrible time and deep pain.”

Eduardo Aguilera, an off-duty police officer, was driving by the corner of Pío Baroja and París streets with his daughter. He was accosted by armed robbers who demanded he give up his car. He reportedly resisted, trying to deter the criminals with his service firearm.

A shootout began, and nine-year-old girl Umma was shot in the head and one of her hands.

The criminals managed to escape, and the girl was urgently transferred to Churruca Police Hospital by helicopter where she died of her injuries.

President Javier Milei echoed the Security Minister with condolences and committed to “making them pay.”

“Umma was nine years old and was murdered in a cowardly way. I send my most sincere condolences to her parents, María Eugenia and Eduardo, both officers of our Federal Police,” he said on X. “Delinquents think they continue living in Argentina of impunity but they’re wrong. We will find them and make them pay for the life they took and the family they destroyed.”

The investigation into the attack is being led by police officers from Villa Centenario 7th Precinct and the Functional Investigation Unit (UFI) #18 led by Pablo Rossi.
