Argentina airport strike: hundreds of flights canceled nationwide

Only Flybondi and American Airlines are operating. Companies are offering to reschedule flights for free

Around 400 flights have been canceled and dozens of others were rescheduled this Wednesday as airport and airline workers, as well as pilots, carry out a 24-hour strike nationwide, protesting for better wages.

The only two companies currently operating are Flybondi and American Airlines. All other national and international flights have been canceled or rescheduled. Airlines are offering to rebook them for free.

Aerolíneas Argentinas canceled 331 flights that were scheduled for Wednesday, affecting 18,000 local and 6,000 international passengers. In a press release, the company asked passengers to abstain from going to the airports, as front desk employees won’t be working.

“We suggest that  those who had flights scheduled for Wednesday check their email for updates,” Aerolíneas said in the release, adding that passengers who bought their tickets at a travel agency should directly consult them.

For more information, Aerolíneas Argentinas passengers can call 0810-222-86527, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Passengers can also click here for more information.

Flybondi canceled six flights on Wednesday and transferred all of its Buenos Aires operations to Ministro Pistarini airport in Ezeiza for the day. This means that none of their flights will be  landing at or departing from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires City.

Aerolíneas Argentinas, JetSMART, Flybondi, and LATAM Argentina are offering passengers with flights scheduled for Wednesday to rebook them for free.

Aerolíneas Argentinas passengers can reschedule their flights free of charge up to 15 days after the original date.

LATAM announced passengers could move their flights up to one year after their scheduled trip from or to Argentina on their website. They are also offering refunds for unused tickets.

JetSMART didn’t specify a time frame to rebook the flights, but said the changes could be done here or by calling +54-11-2206-7799.

Flybondi passengers who were either affected by the airport change or had their flights canceled or rescheduled for more than four hours later than their original time, can rebook them free of charge for the next 30 days by calling 0810-555-3592.

American Airlines flights to or from the United States maintain their original schedule, given the company has its own staff at the Ezeiza airport and they haven’t joined the strike.

Iberia, ITA Airways, Delta, AeroMexico, AirFrance, Copa Airlines, Air Europa, GOL, British Airways, and others have either rescheduled or canceled their flights. For more details, contact the company you are flying with.

The status of all flights can be checked at Aeropuertos Argentina 2000.
