Javier Milei to meet with outgoing President Alberto Fernández

The handover meeting is scheduled for Monday, according to the presidential spokeswoman

President-elect Javier Milei will meet with outgoing President Alberto Fernández on Monday, presidential spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti has confirmed to the Herald. The pair have already spoken by phone and the meeting is currently being organized, she added.

A time has not yet been set and Cerruti did not say what topics would be discussed.

President Fernández posted on X (formerly Twitter) acknowledging the election results shortly before 9 p.m.

“I trust that tomorrow, we will be able to start working with Javier Milei to guarantee an orderly transition,” he wrote. He thanked Sergio Massa and Agustín Rossi, the presidential ticket for his Unión por la Patria coalition, but did not congratulate Milei in the message.

The president has taken a back seat during the campaign. Although he was eligible to run for re-election, he announced in April that he would not stand as a candidate.
Javier Milei won a landslide victory in Sunday’s presidential run-off, securing 56% of the vote — a 12 percentage point lead over Massa.
