Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo hacked on X

The human rights organization called for followers to report the issue to X and Elon Musk

The Grandmothers (Abuelas) of Plaza de Mayo, the group that searches for people who were stolen from their parents as babies by Argentina’s last dictatorship, had its X (formerly Twitter) account hacked on Wednesday.

“Since this morning we haven’t been able to log in to our X @abuelasdifusion account and we found that another user has taken our identity,” they said in a press release. “We have already made the appropriate complaint but have not received a solution.”

The username was changed to @Port3Networks_ and had reposted seven posts as of Wednesday evening without deleting the prior 21,700 posts by the human rights organization.

“We ask our followers to ask [X] and [Elon Musk] to restore our account,” concluded the press release.

Thanks to the Grandmothers’ tireless campaigning, 133 grandchildren have been identified. In July 2023, the group announced they had found the son of the leftist guerrilla Julio Santucho, who is still alive, and Cristina Navajas, who was kidnapped on July 13, 1976, and remains disappeared.

Anyone born between 1975 and 1983 who has doubts about their identity is encouraged to contact the Abuelas via their website.
