Get Out! Herald Night, home movies, and an overdose of art

From the wildest stories of well-known journalists, to cuing up those old family films, this weekend’s gonna be anything but boring

It’s the weekend in Buenos Aires and it looks like short sleeves are finally here to stay. So shove your winter coats to the back of the closet, and take our recommendations for getting out of the house.

Also, in case you’re making last minute Mother’s Day plans (something we would never do, because we here at the Herald are all very prepared, thoughtful people, especially when it comes to our mothers), we’ve got you covered with our favorite brunch spots.

Herald Night: My wildest reporting trip

Thursday 17 — 8 p.m.
Sheikob’s Bagels (Uriarte 1386)
Free entry

Have you ever wondered how journalists find their way to the remotest corners of the country to report stories? What do journalists choose to leave out of their most extreme stories?

For this month’s Herald Night, we’ll talk to C5N journalist Luli Trujillo, award-winning photographer and visual storyteller Anita Pouchard Serra, and Herald managing editor Amy Booth about what it’s like reporting in the field. Feel free to ask questions! As always, it’s at Sheikob’s Bagels in Palermo, on the third Thursday of the month.

Home Movie Day

Saturday 19 — 4 p.m.
Museo del Cine (Caffarena 51)

Home movie day is an annual worldwide celebration of amateur films and filmmaking, in an effort to preserve home movies now that movies are mainly digital, and many don’t have a way to watch the old homemade films that have been sitting inside a closet or a box for ages.

Home movie day is an open, collaborative project, and all are encouraged to bring those homemade or family videos in Super 8mm, 8mm, 16mm, or 9.5mm formats to the event. You can bring anything you want — family films, vacation, birthday, wedding, travel, home recordings, or historic records.

This event is worth going to, if even just to embarrass your siblings with the mortifying family videos hiding in your closet.

There will be a number of invited designers as well, coming all the way from Peru. You can also expect a DJ set, live music, pizza and beer, because they know how to have a good time.
