Electoral ban: Gov’t admits lack of control in social networks
The head of the National Electoral Board, Alejandro Tullio, admitted that “it may be banned to continue the campaign via Twitter or Facebook” during the electoral ban and did not rule out the possibility of setting sanctions to those who do not respect the rule.
The head of the Executive Power’s electoral matters stated that “it is banned to send political messages, it is not forbidden in a particular way, but in every way.”
Tullio added that “if a citizen states via a social network who he is going to vote it is not considered as a campaign action,” but assured that “we are going to analyze every case” to see if they need to apply any sanction.
“Making campaign actions via Twitter or Facebook could be banned,” he continued and said that they are “studying” this issue because it is “not controlled.”
