Popeye to make big screen comeback
Popeye the Sailor is making a come back to the silver screen, this time in an animated 3D version of the classic cartoon, sources in the US film industry confirmed.
According to Variety, Sony Pictures Animation tapped director Genndy Tartakovsky in order to help the project.
Tartarovsky has just finished directing “Hotel Transylvania,” a 3D movie featuring Adam Sandler as Dracula himself.
The director is popular for his involvement in popular animated series such as “Star Wars – The Clone Wars,” “Samurai Jack” and “Dexter’s Laboratory.”
Popeye the Sailor is a cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar who appeared for the first in US newspapers in 1929.
Later on many animated films featuring the spinach-eater were made for theatres and television.
In 1980 Robin Williams played him on the silver screen.
