13 dead as truck, passenger van collide head-on
Thirteen people died early in the morning after a van and a truck collided head-on on National Route 7, in the Greater Buenos Aires area of General Pinto.
Twelve of the victims traveling in the van were from the town of Juan Bautista Alberdi and were headed to El Carmen, in the Santa Fe province, when the van collided head-on with a truck.
The were all part of a group traveling to participate in a "healing catholic mass" scheduled to take place on Sunday.
According to authorities, the road was wet due to a light drizzle at the time of the accident.
Ten women and three men died, including the drivers from both vehicles. Police authorities were trying to determine the identity of the passengers in order to notify their families.
A 69 year-old woman was the sole survivor of the accident, and she remains hospitalized in a serious condition.
