Alfonsín remains confident he will beat Sanz in UCR primaries

UCR presidential hopeful Ricardo Alfonsín.

Radical Party's pre-candidate Ricardo Alfonsín assured he is “confident” he will beat Senator Ernesto Sanz in the party’s primary elections, expected to take place in “April or May."

“I think we can beat him by a wide margin. Everyone in the party seems to think so,” Mr. Alfonsín said.

He also said he was certain “there would be a second round, in which they would manage to beat the other parties,” referring to the presidential election to be held in October.

He explained that Radical leaders would convene on the 24th of January in order to set a date for the primary elections.

When asked about the possibility of an accord with the Socialist caucus, he replied that an alliance “is possible not only for 2011 but forever.”

“It’s really hard to explain why the Radicals and the Socialists compete with each other when they could easily run together.”

Alfonsín also blasted the National Government  and accused it of “lying” about inflation rates.
