Global Entry programme open to citizens

Argentines can now register for easier access into United States

As from May 1 the Global Entry programme has been extended to Argentine citizens, the United States government has announced. The official website for registering is already up and running.

Global Entry is designed to ease access to the US for pre-approved, low-risk travellers. Argentina is the 10th country to qualify for this programme, following in the heels of Colombia, Germany, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland and the United Kingdom (in alphabetical order). Thanks to this programme, over four million travellers from these countries can skip the queues to enter the US via the automatic checkpoints, as well as passing through the fast-track TSA PreCheck security control system.

As from May 8 any Argentine citizen with a previously approved visa can register for Global Entry online at GOES (access by Internet only). Registration costs US$100 (not returnable) and lasts for five years.

Once admitted to the programme, applicants must hold a personal interview with a Customs and Border Protection official to confirm their qualification. In the US these interviews can be held at 52 airports and 15 pre-admission posts. At the Argentine end a team of Customs and Border Protection officials will be visiting this city in late May to interview those conditionally approved for the Global Entry programme so that they can use the programme’s benefits even faster. Nevertheless, even following this procedure, there might be a further interview upon entering the US and any violation of the terms and conditions of this programme will result in these benefits being lost, as well as the corresponding sanctions.

Argentines with double nationality may apply with their second passport as long as it belongs to one of the other nine countries in the programme. Global Entry membership is not extensive to other family members.
