Music:  La Filarmónica Cósmica, Jazmín Esquivel

y los Alces and Bel Baroni
The intimate and cozy cultural spot Roseti will host a show that brings two budding talents of the local independent music scene and a Brazilian artist together this Saturday when La Filarmónica Cósmica, Jazmín Esquivel y los Alces and Bel Baroni get on stage. Like Buenos Aires’ music scene itself, these three bands couldn’t be more different, thus offering a concert with diverse and solid sounds. While La Filarmónica Cósmica has been composing songs and recording albums for over 10 years, Jazmín Esquivel y los Alces, with their distinct folk style, have only been around for a few years, and are about to launch their first album. Brazilian Bel Baroni, on the other hand, has just recorded her first solo album after years of playing in bands.

Saturday, May 20, at 9pm at Roseti (Roseti 722).
Tickets at $100 at the venue.

Performance & Art:  Yann Marussich live and William Kentridge at National Museum of Fine Arts
As part of this year’s Performance Biennal, the National Museum of Fine Arts is welcoming the works of two highly recognised international artists. Both the video installation Notes towards a model opera — which will be projected onto three different screens showing all kinds of images and text simultaneously — and the series of watercolours In mockery of progress, by South African William Kentridge, will run until August 13. French performer Yann Marussich, on the other hand, will be presenting his piece Blue Remix from 2007, a sequel to his famous Blue Provisioire from 2001 in which he remained completely still. Blue Remix will feature Marussich in a crystal cage, seeking to shake up the audience’s senses.

Yann Marussich is performing on Saturday, May 20, at 8pm at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Av. Libertador 1473).
For William Kentridge’s display, visit the museum Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 8pm.Free admission.

Music:  Linetzky Klezmer Trío album launch
The Linetzky Klezmer Trío is launching their third album, Nuevos Aires Klezmer, this Wednesday. In a record made up almost entirely of original compositions, the trio has managed to merge Klezmer — a traditional genre amongst Ashkenazi Jews of Easter Europe — and tango, thus creating a blend that speaks deeply of two very rich cultures. Made up of the Linetzky brothers — Andrés on piano, Bruno on clarinet, and Matías on trumpet and mandolin — their new album features a number of huge local guests, such as Ramiro Gallo on violin, Carlos Corrales on bandoneon, Ignacio Varchausky on double bass and Pablo Ben Dov on percussion.

Wednesday, May 24, at 8.30pm at Amijai (Arribeños 2355).Tickets at $200 at the venue or through www.tuentrada.com/amijai.

Theatre  Bardo, un lugar entre nosotros at El camarín de las musas
Bardo, un lugar entre nosotros might have a writer and his characters for protagonists,  yet its staging goes way beyond simple playwriting and the use of words. In a multidisciplinary play that features clowning, dancing, live music and even acrobatics to tell its tale, director Gabriel Páez manages to weave an absurd and comical story. It is in the writer’s bardo, that is, a state Tibetans refer to as the moment between life and death, that all this wonderful display takes place, and allows him to review his life and his characters in a creative and unorthodox light. Páez’s Bardo, un lugar entre nosotros is a clear attempt to take the physicality of acting a step further by including actual acrobats while, at the same time, introducing a sort of theatrical poetry into the mere physicality of acrobatics. It promises to be a unique show.

Sundays at 8pm at El camarín de las musas (Mario Bravo 960).
Tickets at $150 at the venue or through www.elcamarindelasmusas.com.
Discounts available.
