A security system developed with LoJack
Developed exclusively for the French carmaker by LoJack, Peugeot Car Safe works via GPS and an application on the driver’s phone, providing the user different with configurations to optimize comfort and safety according to the Mobility by Peugeot philosophy.
I was able to test out the system on a Peugeot 408 Feline HDI. It’s worth noting that it can be used with all Peugeot models released in the last few years.
The first thing I would highlight is the feeling of security that I felt in having the application, which allows you to monitor almost every aspect of the car’s use. This is handy when your children or spouse ask to borrow the car, and particularly important in a difficult climate we’re going through in terms of crime. Your mind is at ease even when you can’t get in touch by phone.
Another of the advantages I noticed is that the driver doesn’t have to know that I have this control system, which could be insightful when lending the car to an employee, for example.
The tool can also be controlled on peugeotcarsafe.com.ar, allowing for compatability on platforms such as Blackberry and personal computers. The app is only available on Android, Windows Phone and IOS.
The product was developed in a joint venture between Peugeot Argentina and LoJack, and has nine main functions:
Lets you track the vehicle in real time through satellite technology, display its locaiton on your phone on a virtual map that updates every 30 seconds, with national reach.
Enables the display of the vehicle’s location over the past 30 days.
You can define a safe area, warning the driver if its moves out of it. The system will monitor each minute if the car has departed the area chosen by the user and send an SMS to the owner’s mobile phone as soon as it happens.
This tool triggers an SMS alert when the vehicle exceeds the speed limit defined by the user for more than 30 continuous seconds.
This is a reminder to the client that is triggered before reaching the indicated mileage or time to service the vehicle. If the customer sets a reminder, a reminder is also sent to the dealership.
This function sends a notice to a call centre if the owner identifies a situation deemed potentially dangerous to himself or his family. Upon receiving the notice, the call centre will apply the established security protocol, which consists in contacting a number of user-configured contacts. Without immediate response, the operator will send the police to where the vehicle is located.
This utility allows the user to identify different points of interest for customers of the brand, including dealers, licenced workshops or Peugeot Lounge “Cities,” among others.
If the vehicle is stolen, the customer can press a button that will notify LoJack’s emergency team instantly. From that moment, Lo Jack will contact the customer to confirm the robbery or theft and start the process to track and recover the vehicle.
Telephone Escort/Call Assistance
This telephone support service has two possible uses. When the user is arriving to his home, a call to a specialized call centre is started, and an operator will remain on the line waiting for the customer to enter his or her house. If the user sees a criminal, the operator will send the police to the customer’s home.
The second instance of use is for questions regarding the state of highway, tourist information, utilities, emergency and the proximity of petrol stations that are answered by a specialized operator.
The tool is available throughout the Peugeot dealer network.
