Fun, charity and a dinner party gone awry

For The Herald
Plácido Grupo de Teatro are at it again this year. They were founded in 1995 by former students of Marín School with the dual objective of taking to the stage and helping those in need. The company produces their own productions with bizarre, witty titles such as Un Sujeto Sujeto a su Pesado Pasado, Entremeses entre mesas, Un Loco ReCuerdo, Desde Mi CasaMiento and SuMisión de Padres. All of these pieces are staged with the purpose of “Take action by acting” (Actuar actuando), donating the funds they obtain to different charitable groups and ONGs. Basically, the group has fun doing what they love, the audience enjoys a good comedy and the profits go to a noble cause. One of their latest works — SuMisión de Padres —was staged last year and sees the footlights again this season.

SuMisión de Padres is a work which had a good share of success, since it is being revived this year. The piece constitutes a jolly, amusing comedy set in a prosperous suburban home owned by a family who have invited two couples of friends for dinner. It dwells on the not-so-easy task of being parents end how to deal with educating children. Needless to say, disagreements arise and many comical situations and misunderstandings flow one after the other. It is a play in which doors — including that of the bathroom — are hectically opened and slammed.

The piece is written by Sebastián Goetz and Lucas García Haymes (who are also performing) and directed with the right kind of rhythm and coordination by Leo Kreimer. The cast of very different, well-sketched players, work well as a team in the fast, amusing, complicated — and most of all, well-coordinated — scenes. With fine mise-en-scène by Marcos Maiorano, whose backstage team managed faultless scene changes. The theatre’s location will surely be a surprise for many who drive past the famous Alparamis store on Libertador Avenue in Olivos: the theatre is located within the store’s premises.
