River's Carbonero wins place in Colombia World Cup squad

River Plate midfielder Carlos Carbonero was today called up as a late replacement to the Colombia World Cup squad, entering the 23-man list in place of the injured Aldo Leao Ramírez.

Ramírez was forced to abandon the Colombian training camp after suffering a ligament strain, which will keep him out of action for the next three months.

Carbonero will join his team-mates in Cotia, Sao Paulo, in the next few hours to start training for the tournament, according to the Colombian Football Federation. Among those in José Pekerman's squad are River team-mates Teófilo Gutiérrez and Eder Álvarez Balanta.

The 23-year-old, who this year won the Final Championship in Argentina with the Millonario, will wear the No.5 shirt for Colombia, who take on Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan in Group C. He has represented the Cafeteros on only one occasion, during a friendly match against Ecuador during the tenure of Hernán Darío Gómez.
