INDEC: Salary Index up 2.9%

The National Statistics and Census Institute (INDEC) has revealed that the so-called Salary Index which tracks earnings was up 2.91 percent in March, compared to the same month in 2013.

According to the official figures, wage levels in the public sector grew most, at 4.30 percent, compared to the private sector which showed increases of just 1.67%. Workers in the informal economy and in unregistered employment, meanwhile, saw rises of 4.69%.

In general terms a 29.48 percent rise since March 2013 was recorded, with a 6.91 percent in the first three months of this year.

The INDEC figures show the average value of salaries, taken before this year's salary negotiations which in large part come into effect from April or May, and excluding extra payments such as overtime or bonuses.
