Boca returns with Riquelme recovered
Boca Juniors will return to work today with Juan Román Riquelme recovered from an injury and the team will focus on the last Superderby of the summer against River Plate, which defeated Boca 2-0 in Córdoba on Saturday.
After the disappointing performance of the team against its arch-rival at the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium, Carlos Bianchi’s side will have its revenge next Saturday, when the third and last Superderby of the pre-season will be held at the Malvinas Argentinas stadium in Mendoza. The first match between them finished 1-1.
Coach Bianchi will count on many first-team players who were injured or suspended. Goalkeeper Agustín Orión, who suffered a hip injury during the first match against River, will be back in the team. Defender Daniel “Cata” Díaz will also return after being suspended for one game.
However, Bianchi and the fans are hoping to count on Riquelme for the match in Mendoza. The 35-year-old playmaker played 60 minutes with the reserve team against Defensores de Belgrano of the First Division B on Saturday. If Riquelme continues with the recovery, he will play on Saturday. Meanwhile, River Plate President Rodolfo D’Onofrio said that his club will the historic great club again and added that Bruno Urribarri will become a new signing.
“It’s always important to win a Superderby and I’m happy as a fan, but as president I must recognize that it’s just a summer friendly. We don’t have to overreact about this victory, but we must believe that River will again be what it was. River will be River again,” said D’Onofrio.
On Saturday, River got a 2-0 deserved victory over Boca with goals scored by Manuel Lanzini and Juan Carlos Menseguez in the sixth and 42nd minutes, respectively.
River coach Ramón Díaz said that “it was a tough match... Boca has a great team and has great players such as (Fernando Gago) and (Pablo) Ledesma. We won, but this is just the beginning.”
